On Our Radar: Top 10 Museum Exhibits This Summer

Despite what our S.O's think, our girls' getaways aren't ALL about shopping and partying--we do like a solid dose of culture now and then and don't always wait for the art to come to us. Our friends over at Mutualart.com, a new site for art aficionados, provided us with this handy list of the Top 10 U.S. Art exhibits. If you do go, download one of iTunes new Audio Museum Tours to get the inside scoop.

Here's their list, in
JSG's order of preference (Take note: We're art neophytes, so take our opinion for what it's worth):

Frida Kahlo
(San Francisco Museum of Modern Art). We were bummed we weren't able to get our act in order to see this exhibit in Philly, which our other girlfriends raved about. Good thing for us we're headed to San Fran in July!

Everything's Here: Jeff Koons and His Experience of Chicago
(Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago) His giant dogs are so whimsical and fun--we wish we could afford a sculpture in our own home!

The Baroque World of Fernando Botero (New Orleans Museum of Art) Because we think everyone should visit New Orleans as much as possible and our friend Heidi loves his voluptuous women. It doesn't get any sexier than Botero in the Big Easy! (artwork above and at top)

·Calder Jewelry (Philadelphia Museum of Art) We grew up seeing Calder in the National Gallery of Art and will always have a soft spot for him.

Los Angelenos/Chicano Painters of L.A.: Selections from the Cheech Marin Collection (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) How can you not see an exhibit of art from the collection of one of the world's biggest stoners?

Making It New: The Art and Style of Sara and Gerald Murphy (Dallas Museum of Art) While we didn't know who they were til we googled them, this couple were close friends with Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Picasso and Alfred Hitchcock. That's reason enough to go for us!

Gilbert & George (Milwaukee Art Museum) The duo who coined the term "Art for All" are sure to put on one heck of an exhibit!

Louise Bourgeois (Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City) We still haven't gotten over our arachnaphobia so her works scares us a little.

Buckminster Fuller: Starting with the Universe (Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City) This looks a little text heavy for our tastes. If you go, please fill us in!

Life on Mars, the 2008 Carnegie International (Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh) Sci-Fi and Star Trek geeks are SO not our thing!
