Fall Nail Polish Trend

While we're partial to khaki, our friends at Daily Makeover have unearthed a few other hot nail polish colors for fall. How can you go wrong with glitter, courtesy of Deborah Lippmann's Bad Romance?

Ralph Lauren 100 Bloggers Unite Against Cancer Campaign

Breast cancer sucks. Even if it hasn't touched your own life, by now you know that women young and old are at risk--just look at Christina Applegate and Sheryl Crow. We've started to hear about friends of friends in their 30s getting diagnosed and Hope's grandmother and Annie's 40-something aunt both died of the disease.

So when asked to join the Ralph Lauren 100 Bloggers Unite Against Cancer Campaign it was a no-brainer. (It's certainly a lot easier than the Avon 39 mile walk Hope did last spring!)

Like us, Ralph Lauren is no stranger to the fight against breast cancer. He was spurred to support the cause after the death of his friend Nina Hyde, former editor of the Washington Post. 2010 marks the 10th anniversary of the Pink Pony Fund of the Polo Ralph Lauren Foundation.

For those who question why breast cancer is only talked about in October and why other women's cancers often seem to get lost, Ralph wants you to know that the Pink Pony Fund is a year round campaign and that while the Pink Pony campaign was initially established with a focus on Breast Cancer, it has now expanded to include other cancers.

Support the Pink Pony Fund
There are a few ways to support the Pink Pony fund, which supports programs for screening, early diagnosis, treatment and research and brings patient navigation to medically underserved communities:

  • Buy an item from the Pink Pony Fund, like the polos we're sporting above.
  • Take part in the Charity Buzz auction from October 1st to October 21st. 100% of proceeds from the aucution will benefit the Pink Pony Fund. You can bid on items including:
  •  A Front Row Seat at the Ralph Lauren Fall 2011 Fashion Show and Meet the Designer Backstage,
Have Your Child Star in a Ralph Lauren Ad,
Meet Jerry Seinfeld backstage at a show,
A Personal Tour of Ralph Lauren’s World-Famous Car Collection,
Two Tickets to Miami Heat Game and Meet Lebron James,
  •  Donate $10 by texting PINKPONY to 501501 to automatically donate $10.

What a wonderful day...

...to go see The Exorcist! Well, tomorrow, I mean. DUDES. Are you going to see The Exorcist extended director's cut in theaters tomorrow? One day only! New behind-the-scenes footage! IT'S THE EXORCIST AND IT'S PLAYING IN THEATERS FOR ONE DAY. I find this very exciting, and therefore I am going. Man, classic horror on the big screen- so effing cool I can barely take it. Click here to find out where it's playing near you and then go. If I go and you go, it will be sort of like we're going together even though we're not. Won't that be neat? Yes. Yes, it will. Righteous. See you there! (not really) (but sort of) (okay, not really)

Marc by Marc Jacobs Owl Ring

Marc

You should always collect something when you travel. It makes shopping fun--and kitschy items like snow globes, do not disturb signs or magnets always look better as part of a collection than on their own. We collect owls. It started when our friend Charlotte gave us one carved out of wood for our new apartment. Owls bring health and happiness into a home, so they make a perfect housewarming gift if you're ever in need.

While this Marc by Marc Jacobs owl ring can't sit on our bookshelf or remind us of a trip, it adds a touch of whimsy to any outfit in any city, day or night.

Available at Nordstrom.com.

A thing you can read!

So the fine folks at AfterEllen asked if I wanted to start a monthly column about women and/in/about horror. I said, "Why yes, that sounds like a delight." The column is called "Take Back the Knife" and the first one is up and running right now, woo! It's all about the making of In Satan's Closet, which I hope you've watched already. If not, what are you waiting for? Git over there and watch! Or watch it here at FG! Or whatever!

I wish I could take credit for coming up with the name "Take Back the Knife", but I can't (hat tip to my friend Dara for that one). I just don't have that sort of clever-pun-riddled brain. Like, if I opened a hair salon I wouldn't call it, you know, SHEAR MAGIC or something. I'd probably call it HAIR CUTS.

Also, I posted up the third episode of Space Girls. You should watch that, too. I mean, if you want to. No pressure or anything.

Hair by Guido at Versace Milan Fashion Week

With all the rain we've had on the east coast the past couple of days, the slicked back look from Guido at the Versace show in Milan may be best way to battle frizzy hair in these crazy conditions.

"Donatella and I discussed this look quite a bit; as typically she loves big, voluminous sexy hair for her show. Through this departure from that, we wanted to show that hair kept close to the head that draws attention to the face can be just as high glamour as big hair. This is a look anyone can wear, as long as she has the confidence to allow her face the extra exposure exposed. Also, not using so much product could also tone down the look a bit too for everyday. And the accessories, like the pieces of PVC plastic, can add a bit of fun into such a glamorous, high fashion shape." - Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Guido used these Redken products:  hardwear 16 super strong gel and glass 01 smoothing serum.

Here's how to create the look on your own:
Apply Redken hardwear 16 super strong gel in sections thoroughly through entire head of hair all the way to just past the nape of the neck, using a comb to create a smooth texture with no part.

Smooth hair all the way back on the top and sides and pull together in a low ponytail secured at the nape of the neck.

Coil hair around itself into a knot and pin into place.

Take a piece of PVC plastic (or any type of square shaped material you'd like to use) and secure around the bun with an elastic, allowing the ends of the square piece to essentially "stick out."

Finish entire look with slicking on heavy amounts of glass 01 smoothing serum for that glassy, patent leather texture.

Jack Black Lip Balm

Champagne and lip balm are two things we can never get enough of. While Perrier Jouet is still tops on our bubbles list, we now have a new favorite lip balm and --surprise-- it comes from our S.O.'s medicine cabinet. Jack Black Lip Balm offers heavy duty moisturization, thanks to shea butter, avocado oil and vitamin E, but it's not sticky or tacky since it's made for men who shy away from shine. We suspect with it's slightly sweet flavor the lemon and chamomile version was actually created with women in mind. Definitely add this to your carry on bag!

New Bowling Alley at Foxwoods

high rollers foxwoods

After our recent experience at the new SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia, we, along with our friends in the bachelorette party we were with, decided that casinos only belong in Las Vegas, and possible Atlantic City. The 10 of us agreed that every casino we've been to outside of those two cities (in America, at least), has a somewhat sketchy element. At SugarHouse, that was older smokers playing slots and grandmas with bad wigs.

So, more power to Foxwoods and the new High Rollers bowling alley opening in October in a party hosted by Kim Kardashian, but we will not be rushing up there to check it out. We're just not convinced that, even with a catchy name, a marble bar, bowling alleys, chandeliers and pool tables can make a Connecticut casino cool, especially with a last call of 2 a.m.

Loeffler Randall Rain Boots

Loeffler Randall Rain Boots
After a few false starts with Hunter Wellies (What color to get? Are they too tall? Too clunky?), I finally settled on the Loeffler Randall Rain Boots. The boot has the same cut as the LR Matilde boots, and are far sleeker and chicer than a Hunter could ever hope to be, even a Jimmy Choo version.

Hope asked why I want rain boots so desperately and if they're warm enough. Anyone who has been in NYC during a sudden downpour or after a thaw knows how treacherous the puddles that collect on the street corners can be. Their depth is deceiving--you could think you're stepping in a centimeter deep pool, only to find yourself ankle-deep in icy sludge. As for warmth, just wear a thick sock and you'll be fine. With these babies, I can splash through puddles and still look cute--make that stylish.

True confession: while I do adore the zippered version of the Loeffler Randall Rain Boots that are new for 2010, I did order last year's off eBay and saved $100+.

Kiehl's Photo-Age Corrector

Kiehl's Photo-Age Corrector
The Photo-Age Corrector is Kiehl's latest product designed to reverse the signs of damage caused by UV rays. Let's face it, even if you use your SPF diligently, dark spots creep up and hyperpigmentation gets exacerbated, especially if your using certain antibiotics and hormones. The Photo-Age Corrector can be used on small areas or across your whole face, leading to a brighter overall complexion. Now that the days are getting shorter and we're spending less time outside, it's a great time to focus on reversing sun damage from the summer.

I've tried it myself for a couple of weeks and am pleased with the immediate results.  First the lotion goes on smoothly and has a pleasant (if barely noticeable) scent. In the morning, there's a noticeable freshness to my complexion and I'm hoping it continues to get better as I use the product.

The Phote-Age Corrector is available at department stores and Kiehls.com.

Now go VOTE while I go figure out what to do with all your responses. Don't worry! This is is how I feel about the whole list thing in my heart and loins.

On Our Radar: The Aria Hotel Las Vegas

Thank you Ritu, for sharing your guest post on The Jet Set Girls!

Aria Hotel Las Vegas

I visited Las Vegas for the first time with two girl friends over Labor day and had the pleasure of staying at
Aria, the strip's newest hotel. The first thing you will notice as soon as you walk in is the delicious fragrance that the lobby is filled with. Aria had special scent engineers who came up with a unique blend of notes to create the hotel's signature scent. Built with the collaboration of eight different architects and complete with a waterfall and a beautiful fountain at the entrance, the hotel is a sight to be seen in itself. The most differentiating thing about Aria however, is the fact it holds sustainability and eco-consciousness at its heart. Plenty of natural light in the lobby and reusable bathroom product containers are a few noticeable efforts.

Keep your eye out for unique art pieces all around the hotel like a huge gold sculpture right behind the check-in counters called Silver River by Maya Lin. Take the time to walk through the hotel and check out the celebrity chef restaurants like Jean Philippe Patisserie on the main floor (my favorite), Jean Georges Steakhouse, Bar Masa and Shaboo ($300 prix fixe) by Master Sushi Chef Masa Takayama and award winning chef Julian Serrano's namesake restaurant spread out between the first and second floors.

Your stay at the Aria is incomplete without a visit to the "daylife" pool party at Liquid. All you need to do to gain free access is to put on a bikini, throw a cute cover-up on, touch up your makeup and slip into some cute shoes (heels optional) and the hosts in the general pool area will be handing you passes and begging you to hang out at Liquid. What you'll find inside is a smaller, more intimate party compared to the large and crowded parties like Wet Republic and Rehab, with classy party-goers drinking high end tequila and Perrier-Jouet. The top class DJs with uncanny abilities to read the crowd will keep the energy up with the best new house music, mixed flawlessly.

Take advantage of having one of the newest hot spots for nightlife right in your hotel by partying at Haze nightclub. There are some optical illusions built into club to create a "haze" like a moving ceiling of lights and larger than life sculptures. Celebrities make constant appearances and I saw Busta Rhymes perform on my visit.

Staying at Aria will not only give you bragging rights for staying at the newest hotel in the newly revitalized city center of Las Vegas, access to one of the hottest pool parties and clubs but also an excuse to sample some of the newest hotel technology and amenities.

Hey, so...

...what are you doing the weekend of October 15-17? If you live in Los Angeles or perhaps feel like traveling to Los Angeles, then you should hit Creation Entertainment's Weekend of Horrors in Burbank. Why? Well, because the lineup is pretty durn sweet: Bruce Campbell, Clive Barker, Jeffrey Combs, Adrienne King, Joe Bob Briggs...guys, the dude who played "Madman" Marz is gonna be there! You should show up in your TP belt buckle. I know you have one, so don't be frontin'. He'll be impressed!

Because I care, I'd love to make it easier for you to attend by giving away a pair of tickets to two- yes, TWO- wicked lucky winners. All you need to do is send an email to stacieponder (at) gmail (dot) (c)(o)(m) with WOH in the subject line, and cross your fingers. I'll draw the winners' names randomly, so no ass-kissing or promises of bribery are required (THIS TIME). Email me by...oh, October 9th to enter. Hooray! Stuff to do!

Chanel Lifting Firming Travel Essentials

Chanel Lifting Firming Travel Essentials
The Chanel Lifting Firming Travel Essentials may be the most luxurious and decadent anti-aging travel-size skincare set we've tried. The three piece set comes with gorgeous black Chanel logo jars, each within TSA carry-on limits, and a black keepsake pouch. Of course we know packaging isn't that important; so we'll stress the quality of the silky soft creams (one day lifting cream with SPF15 and one night cream) and of the smooth serum which you apply before either cream. We're not usually one for perfumes; but these creams come with the signature Chanel scent that gets a pass for reminding us of all things chic and French.

You can find the Chanel Lifting Firming Travel Essentials at Chanel.com and fine department stores.

DuWop's Flight Stick

duwop's flight stick
O.K. so we haven't tried it yet, but the DuWop Flight Stick sounds like a dream come true. According to the website, it's:
"a skin-enhancing, hydrating stick created for the weary traveler or anyone who wants an instant pick me up. The product contains anti-oxidants to protect and hydrate. A touch of caffeine, a natural stimulant wakes up the skin and enhances the appearance of dryness and damage. Flight Stick also contains a hint of tint to even out and perfect the complexion."

Boscia Blotting Linens

Boscia Blotting Linens
Our friend, Becky, who's got a pulse on all things glam, was passing these out one steamy afternoon this summer. The Boscia Blotting Linens did a great job of ridding us of shiny T-zones and the green tea version was gentle enough for sensitive skin. They'd be handy to have on a plane too, because there's something about the dry air up there that sends our skin into greasy overdrive.

You can find Boscia at Sephora.

Oscar de la Renta's Emeralds

oscar de la renta emerald earrings

Thanks to Rachel Zoe for letting us know how badly we want these Oscar de la Renta green earrings made of tonal sea glass and emerald cabochon with gold plating. And at $250, they're actually within reach. (Here's hoping the S.O. is reading today!) These babies remind us of the earrings Angelina Jolie wore at the 2009 Oscars. The only thing that's stopping us from ordering these right now is that they're clip ons.

Vanessa Minnillo Throws a Bachelorette Party

Vanessa Minnillo bachelorette party

We knew Vanessa Minnillo has good taste! She threw her friend a bachelorette party this past weekend at the Venetian Las Vegas, the same place we had Annie's almost a year ago. Vanessa and friends stayed in a 2 bedroom Penthouse suite that Vanessa decorated with pink and black balloons for a lingerie party.

The ladies had Kobe Meatballs, Margherita Pizza and Chicken Parmagiano washed down with  with Hpnotiq’s Bubbles and Blue cocktails at Lavo, before heading to the club upstairs to dance the night away to DJ Cobra.
Vanessa Minnillo bachelorette party las vegas

Saturday found the ladies in a cabana by the Azure pool, doing mojito shots and eating cupcakes. For dinner, they went to Dos Caminos for fish tacos and blueberry pomegranate martinis. Then it was off to see David Spade perform at the Venetian Showroom. The last stop of the night was Tao for dancing. We know from experience that Vanessa Minnillo and her friends had a blast at the Venetian!

Ivanka Trump's Travel Diaries

Ivanka Trump in Toronto
We admit it-we have a full on girl crush on Ivanka Trump. She's smart, stylish, an intelligent business woman, a savvy designer and has some of the best highlights we've seen this side of a 5-year old. We'll be following her new "Must Go" travel diary on her Facebook Fan page a lot more closely than we do Gwyneth's Goop. Ivanka shares snap shots of her travels, including the above from the hard hat tour of the Toronto Trump International Hotel. Like Ivanka's Facebook page today!

La Mer: The Eye Balm Intense

La Mer The Eye Balm Intense
To say we're fans of La Mer's eye cream is an understatement. We've used it for years, and only strayed from it when either we're testing other products or our economic guilt got too strong. You see it works beautifully to smooth and moisturize your tender eye area; but it comes with a hefty price tag- as is true with so many of our favorite things.

The newest release from La Mer is the Eye Balm Intense. It uses the same "Miracle Broth" as their original Creme de la Mer but includes two additional versions: a concentrated form and an encapsulated form. They also added a Marine DePuff Ferment and Lifting Ferment which encourage improvement in the appearance of aging around the eyes. These ingredients work together by first refreshing the eye area (you feel a cool sensation as soon as you apply it), then the eye cream penetrates your skin for lasting effects which include depuffing, lifting and smoothing of fine lines. A silver-tipped applicator comes with the eye cream and is designed to pick up the right amount of product. It doesn't pull your skin the way a finger does.

We've used the Eye Balm Intense for three weeks and appreciate the texture of our skin after using it. We're hoping the lasting effects will improve those pesky lines which are creeping up these days!

You can find the La Mer Eye Balm Intense on LaMer.com or at Neimans, Bergdorf's and Saks in October.

awesome movie poster friday - the EDWIGE FENECH edition!

Friends, yesterday I was faced with a dilemma that most every horror fan is faced with at one time or another. It went something like this: like most every horror fan, I love Edwige Fenech. Yet, I have never seen The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh (aka Blade of the Ripper). Lo and behold, I came across a VHS copy of the USA release of the film, under the title Next Victim. Now, I know that edition has about 15 minutes cut out of it (stupid America), but the wondrous DVD release is out of print and selling for approximately ONE MILLION DOLLARS. Okay, maybe $70. But still, even I won't pay that much for a DVD. So. Do I pick up the VHS? Well, it was only two bucks, so yes, I picked it up. Now, however, I debate if it's worth watching. I suppose it is, but the entire time I'll wonder what I'm missing.

So there's my dilemma, which I guess isn't really a dilemma and honestly, I'm not sure why I shared it at all beyond, you know, how sharing is nice and the such. It does tell you what caused me to do the FENECH edition of AMPF, though, so I guess my lame story was worth something after all!

Wow, I either need a lot more coffee or a lot less.

PS - No, I didn't include Hostel II because looking at the posters for it, they just didn't seem like it would fit in with all of these beauts. New vs old, everything was better back then, blah blah blah.
